PHOTO A DAY 2025
2025 began for me with a commitment to photography. Over the last several years, I’ve focused on editing for other documentary filmmakers. While that will continue into 2025, I would also like to get back to working on my own photography.
But while earlier, I focused on documentary projects, I’d like to explore other genres. It’s relatively easy to get breathtaking images when you shoot in grand locations, festivals or the exotic. What I’d like to do is shoot the everyday “normal” and make that exotic. For this, I have to force myself to re-look at the ordinary.
One tool I’m exploring is abstraction. What happens, for instance, if we take out something – maybe colour, or texture or a shape, a part of a whole. I call this abstracthesis (to extract and place before).
My aim for 2025 is to abstract and present one photo a day. This is the challenge.
