Veins. Jan 2025
I spotted this papaya leaf from the kitchen window as I washed my coffee cup after breakfast. Intriqued, I quickly grabbed my camera and tripod and stepped outside.
The decaying leaf, once-vibrant green like the rest of its kind on the tree, was now a mosaic of yellow hues and intricate blackened veins. The jagged edges and scattered holes tell a story of time, weather, and nature’s relentless cycle of life and decay.
I was drawn by those veins. I’ve seen them before on people I know and love. People now gone. Oh! The delicate yet fragile beauty and it’s inevitable breakdown.
Photographing decay for me is a powerful way to explore the beauty in imperfection. It reminds me of the artistry even in deterioration.
In my photography, I’m increasingly finding that moments like this invite deeper contemplation to see beyond the obvious and find meaning in the fleeting transitions of life.
