In 2005, the City of Panjim began its cleanliness drive with a campaign called Panjim Chaka-Chak (best translated as: Squeaky Clean Panjim). As part of the campaign, the then Commissioner Sanjit Rodrigues invited me to document the waste of Panjim and the efforts of the unsung heroes. This photographic work culminated in an exhibition, organised by the corporation, in the Jardin Garcia de Orta.
My aim was to literally make garbage look good enough for people to stop and see the magnitude of the problem the little city was facing.
