Peeping Through. Jan 2025
I find myself fascinated with old crumbling houses. Back in the day when I was a print journalist, I’d written a feature on old Goan homes, speaking to the current owners. Later I had some of my crumbling home images exhibited as part of a collective gallery showing and wrote a semi-fictional piece on these structures (structures? or entities?).
A window, and even a doorway, is a portal to many spaces and times. It is dualistic in nature. A window keeps things inside private. Or for those inside, a window is a gateway to viewing the outside world. So in many senses it means many different things. For me, a window in a crumbling old house is a window into the past.
I think I’m going to continue to seek them out.
