Took a trip to the Myristica Swamp forest in the Mhadei Wildlife Sanctuary. Found in the western ghats, the myristica tree species have evolved over hundreds of years to grow stilt and knee roots to help them stay upright in the waterlogged soil. These groves are several hundred years old and preserved through local taboos around spiritual and ecological beliefs. So while the surrounding forests are cut down to make way for agriculture and human development, these groves remain preserved – for now.
